Bear Aware @ Kent Library

  • Do you know the difference between a black bear and a grizzly bear?
  • Do you know how to tell if bears are in the area?
  • Do you know how to reduce the chances of encountering a bear?
The grade 4 students @ Kent do!!

Chris Ovens, the Chilliwack and Fraser Valley Regional District Bear Aware Coordinator came to our school today to teach our kids to be bear aware.
His snappy presentation taught the kids to identify a black bear and a grizzly bear, what to do to prevent bear-human encounters, and what to do in an emergency encounter with a bear. Good information considering that all of British Columbia is considered 'bear country'. Thanks, Chris.

Thanks also to the boys who shared their bear research projects; Nicholas, Mateo, Austin, and Breydan. The boys presented Chris with copies of their work. We have a small collection of nonfiction books on bears for any kids who want to read more about bears. Be bear aware!
